Welcome to our winter 2011 newsletter.

Over the Summer and Autumn months we have been very busy in the clinic , since our last newsletter we now have 2 additional physiotherapists , an additional sports masseur and receptionist, all of whom help to reinforce our dedicated professional full time clinic.

Kinesio®tape

At Recovery & Beyond we have been offering Kinesio®tape as an adjunct to Physiotherapy treatment for some time and we have received consistently good results and feedback during this time. Kinesiotaping is also available as a standalone intervention that can be applied in place of or alongside conventional taping prior to a sporting event or activity.

Kinesio UK

We offer strapping here at the clinic and we are local stockists of the tape .

We also stock regular athletic taping materials zinc oxide, EAB etc. should you wish to purchase any.

Preparing for a Skiing and Snowboarding Trip

Recovery & Beyond - Winter Newsletter

The best thing you can do to prepare for a skiing/snowboarding trip is to give a little thought to getting in shape and addressing any complaints or injuries beforehand. For example many people who hit the slopes each year do not have the appropriate muscle control in their legs and can end up extremely sore just a few days in or worse with a knee injury.

With a little preparation the risk of such events can be minimised allowing you to get the most out of what is possibly the most active week of your entire year.

Skiing Recovery and Beyond

Ski Assessments

A ski assessment here at the clinic can address any potential problems, weaknesses and imbalances which can decrease the risk of injury and fatigue . The assessment comprises of a series of movement screens specifically designed for skiers to analyse and evaluate any potential physical problems they may have so that these can be addressed in time to get the best out of the holiday.

All ski assessments will be carried out with one of our chartered physiotherapists.

The assessment will be I hour long and you can expect to spend approximately 30 minutes on comprehensive testing , the rest of the session will be spent discussing the findings in relation to common skiing injuries and then working on exercises that reflect the physiotherapists findings . For example exercises to strengthen , improve flexibility and core control with the aim of minimising your risk of injury and fatigue when skiing. A personal exercise programme will also be supplied designed specifically for your level of ability based on your physical profile.

We are also running ski fit classes here at the clinic for those who would like some additional input. These will be small group classes consisting of four week blocks and will be run by the Physiotherapists and by keeping the groups small these can be tailored to individual requirements. Please visit main website for more information or contact reception to book next available classes. The next classes will start on Monday 9th of January and wednesday 11th January.
